Burnout among Direct-Care Workers in Nursing Homes during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Spain: A Preventive and Educational Focus for Sustainable Workplaces

Due to their continuous contact with pain and death, healthcare workers have one of the most stressful professions. Pain death are more common in nursing homes. During health crisis associated COVID-19, these work centers been characterized as spaces high vulnerability infection for elderly, a mortality rate. This research aims determine how COVID-19 has influenced professionals working homes elderly. Using quantitative cross-sectional method, was developed residential Region Murcia (Spain) during second wave pandemic. A survey design based mainly on Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) employed. MBI measures three subscales: emotional burnout, depersonalization, self-fulfillment. The results show that 6.4% respondents were burned out, 53.8% participants emotionally exhausted, 35.1% found suffer from case personal development, showed low level 15.6%. study shows need consider establishment, academic environment, training programs related coping with, managing, identifying stress, especially adverse circumstances. Similarly, professional field, it is necessary develop strategies prevent stress anxiety workplace. development this purpose essential achieving sustainable context.
